Great weather provided a fun filled season of camp activities, including two sets of overnight hiking and canoeing trips and a variety of fun day trips. This year we reintroduced an overnight trip into the Adirondak State Park to Camp Santanoni. Day trips included indoor rock climbing and repelling, Six Flags, mini golf, Village of Lake George, and a trip to Lazy Dog organic dairy farm.
Campers engaged in a variety of land and water related activities. We held our traditional Blue / Grey intramural sports competition throughout the summer, culminating in a Blue victory of 7 to 4 after the Apache Day races, while parents spectated. The camp season wound down with lodge initiations, an awards banquet and final council fire for campers and families. This year we welcomed Malcolm Sanders, Andrew Remsha and Heath Johnson into Prospect Lodge. Henry Paul and Leo Remsha were initiated into Chocorua Lodge. Joshua Weinstein was initiated into Wachusett Lodge.
This summer marked the completion of a five-year group project of building a storage shed (pictured above) to house a ski boat and camp vehicle. This project enabled campers to take an active role throughout each phase of the project until completion. We are grateful for all of the hard work that went into a great final product. Pictured below are volunteers who were present for the ceremony of nailing up the horseshoe.
At the awards banquet, activity plaques were given to boys and hung in the dining hall for recognition of achievements over the course of the summer. Leadership awards in Citizenship went to Carter Buzzell, Heath Johnson and Henry Gordon; Camp Spirit went to Bodhi Kuhn, Alexander Alimov and Spencer Molino respectively in the junior, intermediate and senior age groups. Wachusett's highest honor, the Henderson Trophy, was awarded to Joshua Weinstein (pictured below). The Henderson recipient is nominated and voted on by the staff who deliberate over who has demonstrated the highest level of citizenship, camp spirit and leadership among peers. The golden rule is often brought up as measurement of leadership in these areas. Joshua has progressively displayed great leadership and achievement over the eight summers that he has attended Wachusett.
The summer was finished out with our final campfire and ghost rock ceremony where boys placed their rocks around the fire pit and stood with candles to sing the camp song.
