Balance of Choice and Structure
Unlike other camps that lock boys into a set schedule every week, Wachusett balances structure with daily freedom. Campers choose two morning activities at the start of each week for steady skill‑building, while clinics, afternoon periods, and after‑dinner free time are selected day by day. This empowers boys to be independent and shape a day that’s uniquely their own.
Skill Levels & Progression
Activities at Wachusett are designed to grow alongside your camper, ensuring every summer offers fresh challenges and new goals to conquer. Skills across all program areas are structured into three clear levels of achievement: Prospect (Beginner), Chocorua (Intermediate), and Wachusett (Advanced).
As boys master skills across activities, their achievements unlock entry into our three historic lodges, each marked by a secret initiation proudly kept a mystery for future members. This intentional progression encourages goal-setting and gives boys a true sense of growth year after year.
Daily Choice Clinics
Every day before lunch, counselors announce the day’s clinics at the flagpole. These unique, rotating options give boys full freedom to pick whatever interests them or try something new. Past clinics include:
- 🏋️ Weight training
- 🏃 Cardio & fitness
- 🎲 Card & board games
- 📚 Summer reading
- ♟️ Chess
- 🧲 Horseshoes
- 🎭 Skit practice
- 🌊 Beach activities
- 🥍 Lacrosse or rugby
- 🏕️ Trip prep
Wilderness Trips & Day Outings
Regular overnight camping trips and day outings are built into each session. Every boy embarks on an age-appropriate hiking or canoe trip across New England, pitching tents, cooking over a fire, and stargazing at night. These outdoor adventures are balanced by fun day trips to local attractions like arcades, climbing gyms, mini-golf, and theme parks.
Blue vs Gray
Throughout the summer, campers participate in friendly "Blue vs. Gray" team competitions across soccer, kickball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and more. Supervised and refereed by staff, these intramural games emphasize good sportsmanship, healthy competition, and camp spirit.
