CIT & JC Program

Camp Wachusett’s teen leadership program bridges the gap between camper and counselor. Designed for boys who have completed the 9th or 10th grade, the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) and Junior Counselor (JC) programs blend hands-on leadership experience, camp activities, and team-building with appropriate privileges and responsibilities.

  • Applicants must speak with Phil before enrolling

  • CITs and JCs are not staff and are not hired

  • Session length is flexible, though longer stays are encouraged

  • Participation does not guarantee a future counselor role

Counselor in Training (CIT) - 9th Grade

CITs live together in a counselor‑supervised cabin and remain active participants in everyday camp life, activities, and traditions. In addition to daily activities, they build leadership skills through maintenance projects, kitchen duty, assisting staff, and helping run camp events. CITs receive a $100/week tuition discount, plus a $75/week stipend.

Junior Counselor (JC) - 10th Grade

JCs take on mentorship roles that directly support camp operations. They assist with activities, cover for staff, help younger campers, and participate in projects that foster responsibility and accomplishment. JCs also join staff training and focus on activities they may one day teach. Full‑summer enrollment is encouraged, but length is flexible. JCs receive a 50% tuition discount and a $100/week stipend.

“The friendships and lessons I gained here made me want to return and give that same unforgettable experience to the next generation.”
