Why Wachusett?
Wachusett offers a classic, unplugged boys camp experience built on outdoor adventure, hands-on skills, and a century of tradition. With a small enrollment, a welcoming community, and a non-competitive culture, it’s an unforgettable summer where boys can be themselves while forming lifelong friendships.
A Classic Sleepaway Experience
Wachusett is a true, traditional overnight camp, not a theme park in the woods. Days are spent outdoors in the fresh air and on the lake, filled with laughter and genuine camaraderie. From woodshop, canoeing, and hiking to cabin skits, campfires, and family-style meals, we offer an authentic, unplugged summer where friendships grow and boys can simply live in the moment.
Small by Design
With fewer than 70 boys per session, our small enrollment means no boy gets overlooked. A low 3:1 camper-to-staff ratio ensures counselors understand each boy’s personality and goals, while daily mixed-age activities build a natural big-brother, little-brother dynamic. It’s a warm, family–like atmosphere where every camper feels seen, supported, and comfortable being himself.
Relaxed, No‑Pressure Culture
Our inclusive community and emphasis on choice create a calmer, laid-back environment where a boy quickly feels at ease. Campers feel comfortable trying new things, stepping out of their comfort zones, and making friends without fear of social pressure. Even our Blue vs. Gray team competitions add friendly spirit without the fierce intensity often seen at larger camps. Here, every boy feels like he belongs from day one.
The Wachusett Difference
Intentional Size
Capped at 70 campers per session, Wachusett feels like a supportive family where everybody knows your name, your quirks, and even your favorite flavor of ice cream.
Old-School Summer
Wachusett is a classic sleepaway experience, not a theme park in the woods. We offer a simple, natural setting where every boy feels safe and supported.
Fully Unplugged
A completely screen‑free, unplugged environment focused on fresh air, outdoor fun, and face‑to‑face connection. You can even walk a cow or feed chickens.
A Legacy Since 1903
Founded in 1903, Wachusett is one of the oldest continuously running boys' camps in the country. Lodge initiations dating to the 1920s, honor plaques from 1936, weekly campfires, ghost rocks, and Blue vs. Gray competitions connect today’s campers to generations before them. These traditions give every boy a real place in our century-old legacy.
Boys Come Home Confident
A summer at Wachusett delivers benefits that last long after camp ends. Boys return home more independent, empathetic, and resilient, carrying real‑world skills and practical know‑how. For over a century, Wachusett has shaped generations of boys into confident, capable young men.
